Decks, Fences, and Pergolas

While typically part of a larger residential landscape project, A-10 Contracting is happy to assist homeowners with their deck, fence, and pergola needs. Although these projects are substantially smaller than a full backyard remodel , they will increase your home's curb appeal, functionality, and value.

Decks can be built from various materials, including concrete, stone, wood, composite materials, aluminum, and PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). Choosing the best material for your new deck should be based on the following factors: usage/traffic, cost, durability, and long-term maintenance needs.

Decks can be built to match any style of home, but the most common types of residential decking include:

Attached Deck: The new deck is connected to your home’s existing structure or wall framing.

Wraparound Deck: The new deck extends around two or more sides of the home.

Detached Deck: This deck is structurally independent of the home, creating separation between the home and the entertaining space.

Two-Story Deck: A multi-tier or multi-level deck with a staircase connecting the ground-level deck with the elevated deck.

Entryway Deck: Typically built at the home’s main entry, this deck expands your outdoor space towards the street.

Side Deck: This refers to decks installed along the side of the house instead of the front or back yard. Side decks provide increased seclusion and privacy, making them ideal for lounging, gardening, grilling, and using hot tubs.

Fences

Residential fencing is typically installed along the property line to establish boundaries between homes, provide a designated space for pets and children, or increase a homeowner’s privacy. Depending on the style of your family home, the most common fencing options include:

Wood Fences are the most popular option for homeowners because wood is available in various sizes and shapes to complement virtually any home style. Wood can be used vertically for picket or dog-ear designs or installed horizontally to create added interest and texture.

Composite Fences are made from a mix of wood and plastic polymers for reduced maintenance and improved durability. Like their wood counterparts, composite fencing can be installed vertically or horizontally and is available in a wide array of textures and colors.

Vinyl Fences are ideal for homeowners seeking a budget-friendly, low-maintenance fence option. Because the color runs throughout the product, nicks, dings, and scratches are less visible than those of other fencing materials.

Pergolas

Pergolas are very similar to their distant cousin, the gazebo. The main difference between the two is that a gazebo has a solid roof that provides protection from the weather, while the pergola utilizes an open or slatted roof design for improved air and light circulation. The most common materials for pergolas include pressure-treated lumber, cedar, and standard or heavy-duty aluminum. The most popular sizes include 10’ x 10’, 12’ x 16’, and 12’ x 20’, but a custom-built pergola can be made to fit any sized space.

Sheds

If you need additional storage space, it’s hard to beat the convenience of a backyard shed. Available in various sizes and styles to compliment any style home, a backyard shed can be used to store.

  • Garden Tools
  • Landscaping Equipment
  • Pool and Spa Chemicals/Equipment
  • Off-Season Sports Equipment

Another option is to finish the shed interior to create a perfect.

  • Home Gym
  • Yoga and Meditation Space
  • Home Office
  • Dedicated Craft Space
